Kansas City’s largest Race moves to September 2015 at area’s largest theme park!
KANSAS CITY, MO – December 3, 2014 – Leaders of both Susan G. Komen® Greater Kansas City and Worlds of Fun announced that the 22nd Annual Komen Kansas City Race for the Cure will take place at Worlds of Fun on September 13, 2015. The move means that Kansas City’s largest 5K run/walk (gathering nearly 18,000 participants and supporters and generating more than $1 million in support) will transition in to a full scale family experience with exclusive post-Race park access for participants and supporters.
“Our professional and volunteer leadership are thrilled at the opportunity to partner with the area’s biggest amusement park for our largest fundraiser of the year. This allows us to create a full morning (and afternoon) of impact, support & family fun for everyone who attends the Race for the Cure,” said Carli Good, executive director of the Greater Kansas City Affiliate. “We are seeing a movement nationwide to make the Race more of a family-friendly experience with pre-events, post-events, a wide variety of food vendors and more,” Good added. “Worlds of Fun is synonymous with family-friendly and the perfect venue for us to increase the fun factor while raising critical funds for our community at the same time.”
“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with the community’s largest breast cancer foundation for an event of this magnitude,” said Frank Wilburn, vice president and general manager of Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun. “Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun have a longstanding commitment to give back to area nonprofits. Hosting the 2015 Race for the Cure takes this pledge to a new level as it will involve our entire staff and cover the majority of our campus both pre-Race and on Race Day.”
Good also announced special December-only deals with Race registrations at $20 (untimed) and $25 (timed) for the new 5K and 1 Mile Family Fun Run courses that will wind through the theme park. The specific Race routes will be unveiled in early 2015. A limited number of Worlds of Fun Any Day Passes were also unveiled at $30/person (a $55 value) and a special Race Day Only Pass for $10/person (a $55 value). Wilburn was thrilled to announce that Komen KC Race supporters will get exclusive use of the park from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM following the Race that day.
Both Good and Wilburn also noted additional special events, other discounted ticket packages and unique fundraising opportunities as new promotions for Race this year. These are all designed to raise more than then $1 million to support the mission of Komen Kansas City: to save lives and end breast cancer forever! Other promotions will be released over the next few months on both of the Komen Kansas City and Worlds of Fun Websites and social media platforms.
